Free Virtual Tasting: Berene Sauls of Tesselaarsdal (Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge, South Africa)

On Sunday August 16 at 3:00PM Eastern, Berene Sauls of Tesselaarsdal (Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge, South Africa) will be joining us to tell our community her absolutely fascinating story, her projects (including the planting of new vineyards in her hometown), and will walk us through a tasting of two of her wines:

  • Pinot Noir 2017

  • Chardonnay 2019

To reserve your spot, simply email me to adam@burghundy.com.

I’ve gotten to know Berene over the past couple of years during my visits to the Cape, and I helped bring her wines into Pennsylvania earlier this year in conjunction with Kevin Perez of Grapes to Glass. She’s the first woman of color to own a wine brand in her valley of the country, and her wines are popping up in magazines and wine publications like crazy these days.

She’s someone who truly started from the bottom and worked her way all the way to where she is now, and her wines really are that good (they’d make a Burgundian blush, really). I’m hopeful you’ll join us on August 16.

To acquire the wines in Pennsylvania, you can place a Special Liquor Order on the Fine Wine & Good Spirits website. To make it easier, click here — make your selections, place your order, and choose the store at which you’d like to pick up your wines.

For those elsewhere in the United States, contact your local retailer, or you can directly contact the importer, Vineyard Brands, for assistance locating her wines here. I can also assist in a pinch!

For our international learners, Tesselaarsdal is certainly available in the United Kingdom via retailers like Swig, Hanford, and Hedonism. For other markets, again, it’s best to contact your local retailers directly. (And for those of you in South Africa, I once again express my condolences that you cannot purchase alcohol during Phase 3; we’ll do our best to get exports going!)

Also, please feel free to join even if you don’t have the wines on hand; worst case, it’s an opportunity to learn from an accomplished winemaker and enjoy the company of fellow wine lovers while you sip on the beverage of your choice.

Hope to see you there!

Cheers,

Adam
